Crestwood Citizen's Academy Is Back for 2022!

Tour of Public Works Salt Shelter 2018

Crestwood is once again offering a free seven-week Citizen’s Academy program, starting on September 21, 2022. My wife Amy and I have both attended in the past and I highly recommend it to anyone with even a mild interest in learning more about Crestwood and our city government. You will get amazing access to city leaders and will be provided behind the scenes tours of Public Works, Police, Fire, Parks, Administration, and meet with elected officials.

The program was previously held in summer 2018 and spring 2019, before being cancelled the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 30 residents attended and “graduated” from the first two sessions.

Classes for 2022 are scheduled to be held from 6:30-8:30 P.M. on Wednesday nights, from September 21 to November 2 and hosted by City Administrator Kris Simpson as well as the City’s department heads and division managers.

Each course will include tours, demonstrations, a question-and-answer session, and educational discussions to help participants better understand city services and current projects. The classes are open to any Crestwood resident or business owner over 18 years of age.

“We want residents to come away with a better understanding of how decisions are made, how each department operates, and how residents can get involved,” City Administrator Simpson said.

Citizens Academy will cover more than a half dozen different municipal government topics including administration, planning and economic development, policing, emergency medical services, parks and recreation and more.

The current schedule includes:

  • 9/21 - Admin/Overview (at Gov't Center)
  • 9/28 - Public Works (at PW Facility)
  • 10/5 - Parks and Recreation (at Community Center)
  • 10/12 - Fire (Gov't Center)
  • 10/19 - Police (Gov't Center)
  • 10/26 - City Clerk / Muni Ct (Gov't Center)
  • 11/2 - Elected Officials (Gov't Center)

Pre-registration is required by September 9. To register, please contact Deputy City Administrator Jeff Faust by email at jfaust@cityofcrestwood.org or by phone at (314) 729-4779.
